Murna Foundation

WHO WE ARE
Murna Foundation (MF) is a non-governmental organization founded in Nigeria in the year 2000 by a group of Nigerians with various professional qualifications cut across the six geo-political zones of Nigeria, to uplift the standard of most especially, Women, Youth and Vulnerable Children by 30% in the area of their Health (Reproductive Health), Education (Girl Child Education) and general empowerment towards National Development.

REGISTRATION:
Murna Foundation is registered with Corporate Affairs Commission with Registration No. 19885. It has branches in each of the 6 geo-political zones of Nigeria which is being overseen by the Zonal Outreach Co-coordinators.

OUR MISSION
The Mission of Murna Foundation is a Nigeria where Women, Youth and Children are co-participants in the nation’s march towards a healthy socio-economic and political development.
OUR VISION
Murna Foundation’s vision is to empower 30% of Women, Youth and Children by the year 2015 towards National Development.
OUR GOALS:
Provision of Reproductive Health Services and Community Outreach to Women, Youth and Girls especially in the field of VVF, HIV/AIDs and Maternal Mortality, Education, Girl Child Education, Enrolment, Retention and Completion of Girls in schools, Poverty Eradication Programs through, training, Soft loans to women groups etc.
Provide opportunities for vulnerable groups through, scholarships to enable them complete their education.
Reduce incidences of HIV/AIDS and other STI/STDs and Infant mortality and morbidity rate.
Empower Women and Youth through Skill Acquisition programs and gender equality and the like.WHO WE ARE

The governance structure of Murna Foundation consists of four main organs:
Board of Trustees: The seven members Board of Trustee of Murna Foundation are drawn from the geo-political zone of Nigeria with various professional qualifications.
Board of Directors: Murna Foundation Board of Directors consists of Women and Youth with diverse qualifications and origin.
The Advisory body consists of Religious, Community, Traditional Leaders and Leaders of thought.
The Secretariat is headed by a Chief Executive Officer who coordinates and undertakes the day to day activities of the organization including networking with branches of the organization and other partners.
PROGRAMS THEMATIC AREAS:
HEALTH (Reproductive Health)
Provision of Services and Community Outreach to Women and Youth on issues relating HIV/AIDs, referrals to General Hospitals, to assist know their status Support groups of PLWHA The HIV/AIDS program of Murna Foundation is to conduct training, e.g. workplace HIV/AIDS program to senior personnel. Offers pre-test Voluntary Confidential Testing (VCT), , posters and preventive counseling including Home Base Care and support to people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. Referral to health institutions, weekly meetings of PLWHAs, scholarship to orphans of HIV/AIDS, Free ARV to people living with HIV/AIDS, Official launching of PLWHA and Murna Magazine in December, 2005
Identification of women with VVF and repair collaborating with Local Government to assist in funding their treatment, Child Spacing etc, , training VVF women on skill acquisition to empower them economically and also assist those already on business with small funds to survive their business, monthly meetings with the women, etc.
Reproductive Health through the provision of correct information services and skills to live
Advocacy Visits and Meetings to Religious/Community leaders, Policy makers and stakeholders to gain their support and project sustainability etc
Referral booth and other recreational activities Centre opened to attract youth and women.
Poverty Alleviation Programs through, Skill Acquisition, Soft Loans to women groups, Computer trainings, Income generating activities, etc
Murna Foundation centers mostly on Building the capacities of NGOs, Religious/Community leaders, women groups and other stakeholders to make inform choices about their lives.
Skill acquisition programs to people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS, e.g. Computer training, Vocational training.
Seminars/workshops, media campaign and IEC/VCC material distributions
EDUCATION PROGRAM (Girl Child Education)
Informal sect of education, adult literacy classes, Extra Classes on English and Mathematics, gender mainstreaming programs. Member EFA Committee at the State Ministry of Education, Data collection on Physically challenged persons including OVCs June 2011, Islamiya Classes for women and girls, Tafsir
Media campaigns, interactive session with women and girls.
CAPACITY BUILDING TRAINING BY EUROPEAN UNION INSIDE
Five days capacity building was organized for three members of Murna Foundation, Management Staff. Accountant and Program Officer from the 13th - 19th February 2011. One day interactive Forum by UNDP Abuja 2011

MONITORING AND EVALUATION PROGRAMS
Murna Foundation had several trainings on budget monitoring with Action-Aid International in the year 2005 and had monitored HIV/AIDs projects in Katsina State.
Murna Foundation served as the Zonal Civil Society Organization on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Projects and Programs in the office of the Senior Special Adviser to the President on MDGs, in the North West Zone of Nigeria. 2006 /2007, (KATSINA, KEBBI AND JIGAWA STATES) same position as the State CSO in Katsina State 2008 and 2009
